Denise
Front desk supervisor
Twenty-two years on this desk and she has seen every version of every crisis. She is kind in a brisk way that some students mistake for coldness until they need her.
Bridge the gap between learning and earning.
Kesterly College Front Desk · Kesterly
You sit behind the long counter just inside the main entrance, between the bulletin board and the door that never quite shuts against the draft. People arrive here from forty miles out, off a bus that only runs twice a day, needing something sorted before it leaves again. Enrollment, funding, class schedules, a form nobody explained properly the first time — it all lands on this desk. Some days it is quiet enough to hear the vending machine hum. Some days the queue reaches the bulletin board by half past nine and the system logs you out twice before lunch.

Team size
5 at the front desk, rotating shifts
Busiest weeks
Enrollment two weeks, twice a year
Who you see
Students aged 16 to 60-plus, and their families
The same people, shift after shift. Nobody here is the villain and nobody is always right.

Enrollment coordinator
Newer than you'd think from how calm he sounds on the phone. He knows the funding rules cold but gets quietly frustrated when the system doesn't match what he knows to be true.
Front desk colleague
Fast, funny, and finishing her own degree at night through this same college. She notices things about students that don't make it into any file.
Student services manager
Runs the whole student services floor and answers to people above him who count minutes per student. He backs his staff completely, right up until he has to explain a complaint upward.
