Welcome to Ashfield, population 31,000 — around 12,000 of them students who are only here for part of the year. The university sits on the hill and the town wraps around it: bookshops, bars, cafés, print shops, property managers and a bus route that runs to campus every eight minutes. This town is made up of permanent residents who work in the university, healthcare and schools, and a large rotating workforce of students in their first ever jobs. Shifts are built around class schedules, turnover is high, and on any given day a third of your team may have started within the last month. That means you will be trained by someone who was trained three weeks ago, and you will end up explaining things you only just learned. It also means the exam-week and orientation-week extremes hit the whole town at once, and nobody in the line adjusts their expectations for it.
